5V completes shuttle-train grain facility to support cattle feed supply in Texas

The new rail-connected facility will strengthen grain deliveries to cattle feeding operations in the Texas Panhandle.

USA – 5V, LLC, a partnership between Five Rivers Cattle Feeding and Viserion Grain, has completed a shuttle-train grain-receiving facility in Dalhart, Texas, to strengthen feed grain supply infrastructure serving cattle feeding operations in the Texas Panhandle.

The facility connects to Union Pacific’s rail network and expands the region’s capacity to receive grain from producing areas.

It combines Five Rivers’ cattle feeding operations with Viserion Grain’s grain origination, merchandising, transportation and storage capabilities.

The partners marked the completion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony following the project’s groundbreaking in June 2025.

Thomas Stillman, director of North American grain operations at Viserion Grain, said the partnership brings together the companies’ respective expertise to improve grain sourcing and distribution.

“The partnership combines Five Rivers’ established presence in the Texas Panhandle and deep understanding of regional needs with Viserion’s grain marketing, transportation and storage capabilities to efficiently move grain from where it’s grown to where it’s needed,” Stillman said.

Mike Thoren, president and chief executive officer of Five Rivers Cattle Feeding, said the investment would provide additional resources for meeting the feed requirements of its cattle operations.

“This facility is an investment in the feed supply our cattle feeding operations depend on every day.

The ability to receive grain by shuttle train gives us another important resource for meeting those needs over the long term,” Thoren said.

Rail infrastructure strengthens regional feed supply

The Union Pacific connection is central to the facility’s role in transporting grain into the Texas Panhandle, where cattle feeding operations depend on consistent supplies of feed ingredients.

“Reliable rail service helps connect grain-producing regions with the businesses that depend on them,” said Ryan Raess, general director of grain at Union Pacific Railroad.

Five Rivers operates 13 cattle feedyards across Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona and Idaho. It has a one-time feeding capacity of more than 900,000 cattle and markets over 1.8 million head annually.

Viserion Grain is a subsidiary of Viserion International Holdco, while both it and Five Rivers are backed by funds managed by Pinnacle Asset Management.

The Dalhart investment adds grain-receiving infrastructure to the regional agricultural supply chain, supporting the movement of feed ingredients from producing areas to livestock operations.
