Olam Agri plans to bring animal feed production closer to livestock farmers in Nigeria’s South-South and South-East.

NIGERIA – Olam Agri has secured 99.99 hectares of land in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, for a proposed animal feed production plant aimed at reducing the South-South and South-East regions’ reliance on feed supplies from the South-West.
The Delta State Government presented the Certificate of Occupancy to the company at Government House in Asaba on Wednesday, with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori saying the investment would create jobs and support agricultural development.
Olam Agri Managing Director Amit Agarwal said the company selected the two regions for its next feed production facility because of a supply gap in the markets.
The company already operates animal feed plants in the South-West but plans to bring production closer to customers in the South-South and South-East, potentially improving feed availability for livestock farmers.
Agarwal thanked the state government for supporting the proposed investment and said the company looked forward to working with the government, traditional institutions and the host community to implement the project.
Speaking at the ceremony, Oborevwori said the land allocation reflected his administration’s commitment to attracting investment and expanding agricultural opportunities in the state.
“This occasion reflects our commitment to following due process in all our dealings. As a government, we are determined to create an enabling environment for investors to thrive and for businesses to grow,” the governor said.
He commended traditional leaders and other stakeholders for helping maintain the peace needed to attract investment and support economic growth.
The Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, Obi Ifechukwudi Okonjo II, urged Olam Agri to ensure that residents benefited from the proposed plant through employment, internship placements, skills development and technology transfer opportunities.
The project is expected to contribute to Delta State’s agricultural development by expanding local feed production, supporting the livestock value chain and creating employment opportunities.
However, the company has not provided a production capacity or construction timeline in the information available.
