The facility can produce more than 10 million fingerlings annually, strengthening access to quality juvenile fish for aquaculture producers.

MOZAMBIQUE – AquaFish has inaugurated a fingerling production centre in Namacata administrative post, Nicoadala district, Zambézia province, with an annual production capacity of more than 10 million fingerlings.
The facility was inaugurated on Monday, 26 October, by Zambézia Governor Pio Augusto Matos.
It aims to improve fish farmers’ access to fingerlings for stocking tanks and expanding farmed fish production across Nicoadala and other districts in the province.
AquaFish chief executive André Gonçalves Naume said the investment would support the growth of tilapia farming while creating employment opportunities for young people.
The centre includes a specialised laboratory designed to improve the quality of fingerlings produced.
Provincial director of Agriculture and Fisheries Fernando Namucua highlighted the laboratory’s role in strengthening the supply of quality juvenile fish to local producers.
Governor Matos urged communities to embrace initiatives that increase production and support economic development in the province.
The new facility brings the number of fingerling production centres in Nicoadala to two, expanding supply for fish farmers and creating opportunities for further aquaculture development.
The investment is part of efforts to strengthen the aquaculture value chain, from fingerling production to fish farming and marketing.
Improved access to fingerlings could help producers expand their operations and increase farmed fish output, while supporting economic activity in surrounding communities.
