Evonik’s launch completes its stated amino acid-balancing concept for ruminants, expanding its portfolio of nutritional solutions for more efficient livestock feeding.

GERMANY – Evonik has launched Lypron®, a rumen-protected lysine solution designed to improve amino acid balance in ruminant diets, help livestock producers optimise nutrient utilisation, reduce reliance on high-protein feed ingredients, and support more sustainable production.
The product expands Evonik Animal Nutrition’s ruminant portfolio and complements its existing solutions, including Mepron®.
Developed in collaboration with French coating technology specialist Sipena, Evonik will have Sipena manufacture Lypron® exclusively for it.
Lysine is one of the most limiting amino acids in ruminant nutrition and plays an important role in animal performance.
Lypron® delivers metabolizable lysine beyond the rumen, allowing nutritionists to formulate diets with a more precise amino acid balance.
Improving amino acid balance and nitrogen efficiency
According to Evonik, its high and reliable metabolizable lysine content can help producers improve feeding efficiency and reduce the need for expensive protein sources.
This creates opportunities to formulate lower-protein diets while maintaining productivity.
“With Lypron®, we are expanding our ruminant solutions to complement our established products like Mepron®,” said Marion Hax, head of the Specialty Nutrition Product Line at Evonik Animal Nutrition.
“Completing our amino acid balancing concept allows us to support customers in achieving both higher performance and more sustainable feeding strategies,” Hax added.
By improving the balance between the amino acids supplied in the diet and those the animal requires, Lypron® is intended to help producers use dietary nitrogen more efficiently and reduce nitrogen excretion.
“Lypron® helps nutritionists optimize amino acid supply, increase productivity, and reduce reliance on excess dietary protein, which is increasingly important both economically and environmentally,” said Claudia Parys, global head of the Ruminant Business at Evonik Animal Nutrition.
The solution supports flexible feeding strategies, including lower-protein and reduced-soy diets. Its non-GMO status also makes it suitable for markets that require GMO-free production.
The launch adds another option for precision amino acid supplementation in ruminant diets.
By targeting lysine supply rather than relying on higher crude protein levels, the approach aims to balance animal performance, feed costs and environmental outcomes.
