The new LifeStart portfolio additions target shrimp nutrition from hatchery to grow-out, combining feed supplements for early development with a nursery-to-grow-out feed range.

ECUADOR – Skretting, the aquaculture division of Nutreco, has introduced three shrimp feed solutions to the Ecuadorian market, expanding its portfolio with products targeting nutrition from the larval stage through grow-out.
The new additions to its LifeStart portfolio are InVita, a liquid feed supplement for shrimp larvae; Ignis, a supplement for post-larval shrimp; and Optiline Starters, a feed solution designed for the nursery and grow-out stages.
The products were presented at Aquaexpo 2026 in Guayaquil, Ecuador, held from 19 to 22 October.
InVita and Optiline Starters will initially launch in Ecuador, with further markets planned. Ignis, already available in selected markets, is also being introduced in the country.
Carolina Kourroski, Marketing Director at Skretting LatAm, said Ecuador’s shrimp industry could achieve further progress by focusing on details in the earliest stages of production.
She highlighted the importance of nutritional decisions made at the beginning of the production cycle in influencing performance throughout it.
InVita targets shrimp hatchery feeding
InVita is designed for use alongside Elevia, Skretting’s dry feed for shrimp larvae and early post-larval stages.
Elevia was first launched in Ecuador in 2023 and is produced at the company’s LifeStart facility in France.
The liquid supplement uses buoyant sponge-gel microbeads designed to remain available in the water column, encourage feed uptake and provide targeted gut hydration.
Skretting positions the product as a way for hatcheries to strengthen feeding programmes and improve operational consistency.
According to the company, InVita underwent more than 15 trials and over 100 in vivo tests, with validation studies conducted in Ecuador, Vietnam, Belgium and Mexico.
Production uses a dedicated ‘Factory in a Box’ platform developed in Belgium and now located in Ecuador.
Ignis supports post-larval nutrition
Ignis is formulated from concentrated, pasteurised Calanus finmarchicus, a marine copepod containing essential nutrients.
The supplement is intended to encourage feed intake during the transition through the post-larval stage.
Developed in collaboration with Zooca Calanus, the product combines Skretting’s nutritional expertise with the partner’s processing capabilities. The copepods are harvested from the Norwegian Sea.
Skretting reported during the product’s initial introduction in 2024 that its research and development work found improved shrimp survival during the transition period.
The company also reported that shrimp were quickly attracted to the copepods without an increase in water turbidity.
Optiline Starters extends feed coverage
Optiline Starters expands Skretting’s Optiline shrimp feed range, completing its offering for the nursery and grow-out stages.
The Optiline range incorporates Skretting’s EDGEOS PhytoComplexes, developed with Nutreco Exploration.
These blends of plant-derived bioactive compounds are designed to support shrimp performance through stage-specific nutritional solutions.
Skretting introduced PhytoComplexes in its Optiline and Lorica feed ranges in October 2025, as part of a new generation of products.
Together, the three additions expand Skretting’s shrimp nutrition offering across different production stages, with an emphasis on feeding strategies that support early development and performance throughout the production cycle.
